7 Ideas on how to make your workspace your own.

Customised Desk at McCue House Business Centre

To do good business no matter what kind of business it is, you need to feel the three C’s comfortable, creative, and confident. Look at your desk right now, do you feel like this is a space that inspires you? If the answer is yes, great. If the answer is no, well, we might be able to help.

We all know the saying “a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind” … Albert Einstein added to this with, “of what then is an empty desk a sign?” there is always a happy medium, some people do their best work with paper here there and everywhere, an organised mess one would say.

Some people prefer simplicity as it minimises distractions and some people need those distractions to get that light bulb moment. However you decide to have your workspace, the only thing we do not condone is DULL, BORING and UN-INSPIRING

Jazz your office up and make it YOUR space, we are not saying paint the walls red and knock down a wall to build an en suite but what we are saying is to put up some pictures, including some plants, add a decorative lamp, or keep the minimalist, simple and modern look that our offices currently have if it suits you better.

We are going to give you some tips and tricks to switch up your office space without the need for drills and hammers.

1. Pictures Paint a Thousand Words

Whether it\’s pictures of your family, your kids, your favourite quote, or your fur babies, having that happy moment captured on your desk can make you feel better in times of stress or high pressure.

2. Bringing Nature Indoors

“Biophilia hypothesis suggests that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life” – studies show that it can support cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being. Having plants and flowers in your office creates an indoor-outdoor feel, making your workplace brighter and more colourful, having plants adds to the overall aesthetic of a room.

 3. Accessorise

Pens, pencils, folders, sticky notes, rulers, notepads, and the list go on. Out with the basic Bic and invest well in your tools. You can make them fun, fluffy, flamboyant or keep it professional with a Montblanc.

4. Snack Happy

Everyone loves snacks, sweets and treats to boost you through a long day at the office. Our advice is to opt for something you can have in a jar on your desk, so they need to be foods that don’t perish too quickly. These are our favourites ranging from healthy to less healthy.

  • Peanuts/almonds/walnuts/cashew nuts
  • Pretzels, crackers
  • Popcorn
  • Chocolate Brazil nuts/ chocolate raisins
  • Biscuits
  • Haribo/skittles/M&M’s

5. Computer Desktop Background

This is one everyone forgets about! Switch from default and add a pop of colour to your screen. You can either think outside of the box or tie it in with your profession. Possibly display your company logo or opt for your favourite abstract image. Switch it up!

6. Office lighting

Our offices have dimmable lights, but most do not, we all know what those bright office lights are like so most of us turn them off!! But instead of a client walking into a darkly lit room on a winter afternoon, having a desk or a table lamp can not only improve the light quality of the room it can change the ambient. Ultra-warm light, warm light, natural light, or cool light, the options are there and as for the style, tie it into your chosen office theme, whether it\’s industrial, modern, quirky, or contemporary.

7. Comfort

All our offices are fully furnished, with each person receiving a high-quality desk, full lumbar swivel chair and lockable drawer, each office is also provided with a free-standing coat stand. Other office furniture can be supplied specific to your business requirements upon request.
