Maximising Your Desk Space At Work

Maximising Your Desk Space At Work | McCue House

Whether you are currently working from home or are still working from the office, having a proper working environment is essential to boost productivity. Desk space is often the main thing people forget about, but as you know ‘tidy home, tidy mind’. The same applies to your place of work. The thing is, you might not even be aware that your desk is cluttered and is bothering you. Oh, and when you are having a look to see how cluttered and dirty your desk is, don’t forget about those desk drawers too… you can’t hide everything in there!

Let’s have a look at some of the top tips on maximising your desk space at work. As soon as you finish reading it you have to start taking action too, we won’t take no for an answer.

1. Clean up your desk

The first thing you need to do is wipe everything off your desk. Yes, we mean everything (apart from computer equipment, of course, we don’t want to be held responsible for those getting smashed!). It is best to sort everything into piles: important documents, things to keep, things to donate, and things to throw away.

2. Sort your paperwork

Once your desktop and drawers are empty of rubbish, then you can go back through the important pile of paperwork. Get yourself either a filing cabinet of some folders and file everything in a proper place. An in/out tray is also a great idea for those bits of paper that still need action. There should not be any loose papers on the top of your desk, everything should have its own allocated space.

3. Get that labeller out

A great way to keep your desk organised is by labelling everything so you know exactly what you have. Keeping cables and wires organised is always a challenge, but by wrapping them in a label you can keep them safe and secure. It is also quite handy to be able to quickly see which wires or chargers go to which device!

4. Give everything a place

This is the real key to an organisation. If everything on your desk has a home, you will be able to clearly see when things are missing. Also, it will save you lots of time hunting for things if they all have a particular place where they live. The humble stapler is something that always gets lost within the office. If you give the stapler a home and make sure you put it back in the same place each time, you won’t lose it again.

5. Treat yourself to a desk organiser

Desk organisers aren’t just a great way to add some colour to your desk, they really help with the organisation too. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes – some have space for filing documents, while others may have special compartments for paper clips, sticky notes and pens. Your desk will be beautifully organised in no time at all.

We hope these tips have been useful and your workspace is starting to look a lot cleaner and more organised! You may be surprised at just how much your productivity will improve too.
